One of the Boss GT-x pedals. I'm using a GT-3 myself, and the sheer amount of versatility amazes me.
I mean, I can tap tempo the delay, sure, or I can set it manually. Okay, that's cool. Well, I can go one step further and select how I want it to delay *in respect* to the beat – by whole notes, quarter notes, triplets, etc. *That* is cool. Go one step further – sync in your phaser or chorus to the same bpm automatically if you want, with either the same tempo response, or even different rhythm patterns (ie phaser on triplets, delay on whole notes, etc) to give a different texture. Use the expression pedal to vary the depth, or to switch between two different fx (all the way forward = phaser, all the way back = chorus, for example).
I love how much you can do with the expression pedal, its truly amazing. I have one preset where I have a slightly overdriven sound, but as I pull back the pedal it adds gain, some bass, and at about halfway it starts adding delay, ring modulation, and 'verb, to kick in some dissonant textures. I like it – I can slap it back real quick for a wash of noise (like a very dirty screaming synth pad) or just roll it back for some solo boost… I'm still waiting to figure out where to use it in a song, though. Good for just jamming, though. =)
